Contemporary Style Photography: Tilted & Off-Center Compositions

I personally prefer to shoot some tilted compositions of every wedding to compliment other styles of photography which are usually more appropriate and effective in wedding photography. Tilted and off-center compositions are not at all any kind of challenge to capturing great spontaneity between people. In fact, tilted and off-center compositions can be applied to the bride's favorite photographs later in photoshop as illustrated below giving the bride more creative control of her wedding photography package.

While professional quality lenses and high dynamic range are important factors in the capture of technically superior images, higher megapixel count contributes to greater photo manipulation and cropping changes especially in Magazine Style wedding album design. These are my basic reasons for highly recommending 13+ megapixel cameras for professional wedding photography. Also considering the full page spreads across some albums are actually larger than 16"x20" wall portraits!

In this instance, the composition of the before and after versions of this same photograph stand on their own.
Here are examples of images shot straight. Move your pointer over the image above and below to view the tilted and off-center composition version. Since we shoot with 12.8 megapixel cameras, we can tilt and off-center images originally shot straight . . . and still maintain high quality resolution. So if you would prefer to have more tilted and off-center photography than we originally shot for you, it is very easy for us to create more of those for you in post-production. In the digital photography age of photoshop, this style of photography is very easily created.
Fact: Photographers who shoot with 8 megapixel and lower megapixel count cameras DEGRADE the image quality of their photography even more when they rotate and reposition the center of their images in post-production. Your wedding photography team should be shooting with 13+ megapixel cameras to provide you superior image quality even after you have selected certain images for tilt and other cropping changes after your Wedding Day.

Here the natural incline of a hill tilted this casual group pose. I tilted them in photoshop to produce a more level horizon and also decided to convert to black & white tone. You may click HERE to view larger version of b&w tone.
This composition is slightly tilted, just off-center and shows the effect of a fish-eye lens.

This happy moment between the bride & groom was captured outside through the window behind them. They were unaware that their other photographer was nearby waiting to capture such a natural moment. You may move your pointer over this image to see a tilted composition version done in photoshop to the very same image. With this particular image the tilt may or may not make a difference to many viewers. But I hope this illustrates that tilted and off-center compositions can be created easily in photoshop. We can even apply tilted and off-center compositions later to the images YOU select from your favorites on your DVDs.
Here the image was tilted and I zoomed in closer to the bride.

Tilting and changing the center point in photographs are simply cropping options when you have the high resolution photo DVDs. We include some of this style of photography for every wedding and you can select other images from your photo DVDs we provide you to apply cropping changes as well! Visit Gallery 30 to view more off-center & tilted compositions. I love capturing emotion and great spontaneity between people.

John,

Thank you so much for the outstanding job you did capturing our wedding. We really appreciate your work and talent. Thank you.
